Velondriake Committee

The Velondriake committee consists of representatives chosen by villages within Velondriake who are in charge of guiding the management and stewardship of the protected area.  The committee plays a vital role in the drafting and enforcement of the dina - the local rules and regulations that govern activities within the MPA network.

The goals of the Velondriake committee are:

(i) To promote sustainable fisheries management;

(ii) To develop strategies for nature conservation;

(iii) To promote economic development;

(iv) To improve solidarity and communications between local communities;

(v) To develop regional environmental education initiatives;

(vi) To promote long terms sustainable resource use for future generations;

(vii) To develop regional capacity for ecotourism.
